Thats a way she's often speaking. While watching heroes or other stuff (not nashville bc there her accent is extra southern), I've always seen how her normal accent often switched between pretty american and a very modest american sometimes even slightly british sounding. I don't know why but that's something I recognized pretty often. On talkshows less but on films/series. In my opinion she has by far the best sounding speaking voice of all american actresses. Most have a far more nasal accent. Hence this was something I always admired her for.
PS: this could be due to the fact she lived for around half a year in south africa when she was 14 years old and also went there to school in that time. (During and after filming racing stripes)

Most actresses/actors have to learn how to mimic accents from time to time, it's called a gift. I can mimic all kinds of accents myself but I've lived in the south most of my life.
I do think Hayden's southern accent is not that great much like many of the cast on Nashville aside from Rayna/Connie Britton, she is fantastic at doing country/southern, should've heard her on Friday Night Lights.

Yes but hayden's sometimes slightly british accent is likely from the time she lived in sout africa. And after returning to the US it's sometimes swithcing between american and more british. The southern accent on nashville is of course played but it's ok in my eyes

The southern accent on nashville is of course played but it's ok in my eyes So where do I get mine from because I can do a british accent but I've never lived anywhere else but America? I doubt she picked it up from her small time of living in south africa. I've never heard her with this "slightly bristish accent" before. It's a mimic, anyone can do it. I've always thought Hayden has the typical west coast voice with rasp as I've listened to her interviews and stuff. She has the cali/tom boy raspy voice. Her southern accent is not at all good. It's decent for entertainment but as a person who's grew up in the south and been around all kinds of southern accents, hers on the show is just ehhhhhh kind of like the one girl what's her name? Scarlett, you can tell they're trying to hard to pull off the southern accent.

I continued the southern accent talk in the nashville thread.

As I said it's just accidentally and certainly not meant to be a british accent. It just happens every now and then. Not on special occasions. So it's nothing she wants to explicitely do. Otherwise i wouldn't assume this if it was for one role or on a special occasion. Maybe it's not from her time in south africa. As i said that was just one possibility. Maybe it's just something she got from somebody in her family.
But do we really have to get into an argue over this? Sometimes she does it by choice and sometimes just accidentally maybe. I know we both are sometimes a bit opinionated, but please let's not argue about this anymore. It's just not important whether it was by choice or not. We'll likely never know. Let's just enjoy these two videos since they're probably the last one's bc derek flew back to LA and has likely finished filming. And I doubt anyone else will post videos of hayden any time soon.

You can't claim she picked up on some accent over living somewhere for a year or so, you can never have the accent of elsewhere. She picked up on how to mimic and probably has continued to pick up on being able to mimic it well as she's obviously been constantly in and out of Europe, UK and most likely knows people from those regions.
If I moved to the UK and lived there for the rest of my days, I would NEVER have their accent when I'm talking. I could mimic it, and I could pick up the slang or various words or sayings but never would have their accent in the normal. That's all I was getting at. It's mimic stuff, some people can do it and some cannot.
Obviously Hayden is one of the many who are able to mimic the British accent and probably other accents as well.

Please read my comments. I said she had this occasionally on heroes and other roles and sometimes also in interviews no matter if in the UK or Nashville. And it sometimes changes in between sentences. It's nothing intentional (sometimes it's likely intentional but not always). Plus it definitely can happen that people keep a very little accent, when living for some time in another region with another accent. I know people myself who did this. We don't know where this comes from so anyone of us could be right or wrong (I'm not claiming my idea is definitely right, it was just an idea). I respect your opinion but please stop pretending I'm in any way wrong and what you say is in any way right, bc that's what you sometimes do when we discuss something. Next time when someone (in this case victor) mentions something I'll just stay mum or talk with others via pm, cos it's probably better. I'm tired of always having to defend myself for every opinion or idea I have about a certain thing, especially with such a rather unimportant topic like her accent. I just shared these videos for everyone's enjoyment, victor mentioned her british accent, I shared my idea about it and you yours. So please as I said before let's just stay with "We both could be right or wrong" and leave it at that.

I have never heard this accent of hers in interviews or heroes or anywhere else aside from when she's doing a mimic. I have never heard what you're claiming to have heard "in between sentences". You just don't want to admit it's a mimic when it purely is a mimic. If it's not important, why did you feel the need to claim it's from her living somewhere for a year? You ALWAYS elaborate on everything that doesn't always fit, so yeah me knowing what I know about accents and what I've heard, of course I will disagree and also put out some facts. It's not some important topic but if you start one, of course it's up for discussion. I never said you have to stay mum but please don't start something but when someone comments back, you claim it's unimportant because you don't agree. She does the british accent well, she's talented in that aspect. Thanks for posting the videos. We can leave it at that and this.

And i know what I hear. But I really don't have to justify myself. First criticizing me and then in the same post saying you're ok with making peace lol. I find that a bit weird sorry. OK you want to have the last word at any cost no matter if you're right or wrong. Whatever makes you happy.
